Lake in the City
My city Kolkata is lucky to have a Lake right within the city. Its called Rabindra Sarobar, named after the great poet Rabindranath Tagore. Its not as large as Lake Michigan, but the best part is the vast greenery surrounding it. Morning walkers throng this place every day. Also many cultural movements and programs seed from here.
We were there today morning for participating in a Walk organized by an NGO, who are working on enabling girl childs. Approx 2.5k people joined the silent march for 1.5 hours. If the walk helps erase at least a few silent tears of the deprived girl childs all across the world, that would be great start.

Five steps to reclaim your digital life over the weekend
Weekend plan for the Technology Manager
1. Read all those posts in Google+, FB, Twitter which you had skipped during the meetings and thought will catch up later with. In case the post is more than 2 days old, anyway they are irrelevant now. (Tips: In G+, you can create a circle with yourself as the only member. If you find some nice article, you can reshare it to that circle for reading it later).
2. Throw out your blackberry - you can live without it (Read the fine print: you can live without your Blackberry, but possibly not without your phone)
3. If you are a pro Photographer, skip this step as anyway you will do something to do with photography. If you are aiming to be a photographer or think yourself as a photographer or you are really an amateur one, click atleast one pic - even if its of a pumpkin. That is the only way to learn photography.
4. Be a little narcissist this week by searching for your name in Google. Check if your name is coming in any unwanted place. If so, take action, claim back your name and reputation.
5. Last but not the least, shut down your laptop once especially if you are on Windows. The memory leaks and the temp files are eating out your productive hours. One shutdown a day keeps the IT admin away.

Watch out
With the news & rumors all around about possible hacking of Google & Yahoo data centers, thought of introducing you to my personal assistant - the Wise Owl, who keeps watching us.
This is made out of painting on wood by local craftsmen from West Bengal, India. Its 4" tall and cost me around 30 INR (50 cents approx.).
By the way, we are having long weekend here to celebrate Diwali. So its still #HappyWeekend for me. Rest of the world - wait for 5 more days please. :-)

Rainy weekend
This year the monsoon seems to be continuing forever in India, especially in my part of the country. While the eastern coastal area (Orissa, AP) survived a cyclone few weeks back and the homeless people continue to be at the shelters, another spell of rain has been unleashing over the last week increasing the problem further for them. Even the cities (Bhubeneswar and Kolkata) went under knee-deep water at places after the heavy shower.
Wish you all a happy & safe weekend.

Fresh air
A nice eucalyptus forest comes on the way from Mysore to Ooty, just before the Mudumalai view point. If you are planning to visit Ooty over the weekend, stop over here, pull down the window and take the fresh air. Its awesome.
A dated (5 year old to be precise) travelog is here for those enjoying a lazy weekend: http://mysore-ooty-kodai.blogspot.in/. For others, go out and catch the fresh air anyway.Happy Weekend. Happy Friday.

Indian Taxi with manual wiper (Video)
It was raining heavily while I was returning from office today. And with my car at workshop, had to rely on the Yellow Cab of Kolkata. The wiper of the Cab was not working properly. So suddenly the driver pulled down the cab on the road, took his toolbox out, detach the wiper with a wrench and then started operating it manually with his right hand while continuing to drive with his left hand. Enjoy the video.
Hope you had a better day and weekend with your car. :-)
Happy weekend.

And the Puja begins
Dhak is one of the elements of Durga Puja festival which you just can't miss. Got this nice light work at a south Kolkata pandal and Google helped me create the #autoawesome animation automatically.
This time, the weekend is starting from today irrespective of whether you call it Thursday or something else. And it will continue till Monday. Keep rocking.

Happy weekend - the countdown begins
The Bengalees all across the world wait for this part of the year to join into the mass festivity called Durga puja. Though it's a Hindu festival celebrating the win of good over anything evil, it crosses the religious boundary with it's universal appeal. Come join into this spirit of festivity.
Today is Mahalaya, when the Hindus offer prayer to their forefathers through some rituals, generally on the banks of river Ganga. Even if you don't understand a single word of those powerful scriptures, just be happy that Puja is only a few days away.

A group of young girls originally from West Bengal and Assam, now geographically spread across the globe, have come out with an e-magazine (follow the link). Even if you are not a bong or don't believe in Durga puja, hope you would like the visual treat.
Happy weekend. Happy Mahalaya.

Have a Rocking Weekend
And if you are wondering about the animation, that's quite easy. Hold up your mobile phone and capture few consecutive shots in quick succession, upload them in Google+ and bingo. Google+ would stitch them to create the #autoawesome animation. Enjoy. Have an awesome weekend.

So many untold stories
About the unending discussions on a Friday evening. +Indrani Roy beautifully puts it this way: The colours reflect the day and its end too! The shadows of night around the orange of the sunny cup.
